For some people, their Valentine’s Day shopping was all done in one place.

On Saturday, Feb. 3. the Riverchase Women’s Club hosted their 12th Annual Riverchase Loves Art at the Riverchase Country Club, featured art in mediums ranging from pottery to glass to leather to paints. Each artist from the show was hand-picked.

“Continued partnership with the Riverchase Country Club also allowed us to have one of the best art shows we have ever had,” Art Show Chair Lynne Cooper said. “Each year just gets better and better.”

This year, they hosted 50 talented local artists, some returning and some new. The money raised at the event allows the Riverchase Women’s Club to support their chosen charities as well as the art community, Cooper said.

RIVERCHASE LOVES ART – Spotlight on new artist GG Burns for February 3rd show

For Hoover artist G.G. Burns, art is an innate force … first bubbling out, as a 2-year olds’ crayon drawings to over 50 years of illustrating, painting and creating digital designs as a fashion illustrator, graphic designer and most recently as a mixed media artist. Today, GG specializes in holiday themed artwork that she calls “functional art – art you can use.”

Originally from Collinsville AL, GG lived in Birmingham in the late 70’s through the early 80’s. With a degree in Fashion Merchandising from Southern Institute, GG began her career as a fashion illustrator working for retails stores such as New Ideal and Gayfers Inc., but later studied technical and digital design, which lead to employment for companies such as QMS Konica-Minolta in Mobile, AL, Lexmark International, Inc. and J. Peterman, Inc., in Lexington, Kentucky.

Over the past few years, GG has used her years of marketing skills to brand her designs on products that have been sold all over the world. She also paints custom illustrations … pets, children and house portraits … even bridal gowns. Her complete immersions into new mediums and concepts have allowed her to cope with several serious heath challenges. GG’s favorite quote is “art helps me breath” in a world filled with stress and uncertainly.

Painter Sondra Barton returns to the Riverchase Loves Art show on February 3, 2018.

“Painting is my joy! It is the happiness I find in living each day.  Although I have worked with and been inspired by many talented artists I am mostly self taught.  I continue to experiment with texture, color, and mixing mediums aspiring to develop my own unique  style.  I hope to create art that catches the eye and brings forth a smile.”
